According to the guideline, I need to write 6 things that I need to think of : what is it, who is for, How will you make it real, evaluation, where does it live in the world, and specific plan. Al’s workshop that gave a guideline to write a study proposal. However, from the feedback that I got from John It still needs more critical elements, and Why should such a system exist in the world? and Who is it for? Overall, I felt that I needed to clearly say about this idea and what was the background of my thought.
On the last day of the semester, I did an individual presentation to present to everyone what I have done so far, and give feedback with MA UX students. To explain my project in one word is ‘leverage’. Like an old saying that ‘you can see as much as you know’, I want to make a leverage to make people understand better. Whenever I watched the film I felt there is hidden cultural information only that some culture people can read, and wanted to suggest a service to understand better. From Stuart Hall's theory, the media encoded information could be decoded differently depending on the recipient, but in personal experience, when watching movies with friends from other cultures, they often mistakenly understood a particular scene. I later aimed to design an experiment so that data could be extracted.
To summarise the feedback about my presentation I received, I felt the need to categorise what information I want to deliver more specifically, and got suggestions that make it open source data space like Wikipedia. way to access cultural information data and accumulate information enormously, however, I focused on delivering more objective information in consideration of diplomatic conflicts that can be brought about, especially history. And the most heard feedback was Amazon Prime Video ‘s x-ray, which serves film-related information in mobile, web, and television such as background music information, filmographies of the actors in the scene, and trivia like behind-the-scenes stories like the film's commentary. In China, there is a so-called Fansub, which is a Bullet Point caption that adds interpretation related to the scene if it is not fully explained in the translation and it can be found in websites where animation is illegally downloaded or watched. I realised that delivering simultaneous secondary information through a screen is quite common.
I received positive feedback about targeting a specific audience, but I was criticised for the claim that the frequency of exposure does not mean diversity, compared to the world being globalisation and diversification, and that one of the difficulties I have in understanding others is due to the personalised date. I argued that each person lives in a small information bubble that social media makes, and I presented 3 people’s Instagram feeds that are aligned according to a person's interests, but this was not well communicated. I realised I need to investigate further what is the problem behind it. Lastly, I prepared a presentation separately from Moxue, and the background is that presentation is one of the processes of delivering ideas, so unlike me, she preferred a comfortable way of speaking and I respected it.
